24 July 2017 Ecuador is home to 152 species of hummingbirds, an incredible fact considering that this small country is about the size of the state of Nevada. While hummingbirds can be seen anywhere except on the Galapagos Islands, certain locations have been attracting hummingbirds to feeders and specially designed gardens for years.

Well, we do! Ecuador is home to over 132 species of hummingbirds grouped into 57 genera, representing almost half of all hummingbirds found worldwide. Hummingbirds are a very unique bird; they've adapted to any type of climate and altitude by changing their feathers, bill and size to adapt.

Spectacular male has purple hood and white underparts marked with a black belly stripe. In central Ecuador, male has a small patch of green on the throat. Females and immatures are duller, with mostly drab green and grayish plumage and a streaky throat.
